Starting A Nonprofit Organization Workshop
This half-day workshop combines the seminars "So You Think You Wish to Start a Nonprofit Organization" and Starting a Nonprofit Organization: Legal Nuts and Bolts". You get two workshops for the price of one! In the first half of the session you will learn how to determine if there is a necessity for another NPO to do what you want to do. Do you really understand what you are getting into? Who should be consulted? Who should be involved? How does collaboration add to the success of your NPO? How do you find supporters, clients, financial support? Have you considered fiscal sponsorship? - That option could allow your organization to grow initially under the umbrella of another charitable nonprofit until it's mature enough to stand on its own. The second half of the session covers learning the legal steps to choose a nonprofit entity, the legal duties and responsibilities of management, business risks, entity, picking a name, obtaining a tax identification number, forms for governance such as bylaws, resolutions and meeting preparation. Highly recommended reading before the workshop: www.texascbar.org/content/legal_library/pubs/downloads/NonProfitLegalToolkit2011.pdfhttp://www.texascbar.org/content/legal_library/pubs/downloads/NonProfitLegalToolkit2011.pdf
